I own a 1973 Freightliner with a 318 Detroit if that damn thing wasn't leaking oil it was because they was no oil in. it

I too remember seeing highway torches in use in southern Calif. in the 1960s -I especially remember seeing them set up in lines along the edge of the road. makes me nostalgic. I work for the Colorado Department of Transportation and would like to find one that the old Colorado Highway Department used to use.

Where do you get those old railroad signals from? How much do they cost?

Very few hydraulics, no cushion hitch, no enclosed cab, but theres that bone grinding grizzlybear jaw deisel engine! 😊 Immuteable

I have the Hobart generator that bolts on to that. It's got a 4-cylinder Hercules motor on it right now. The generator has been cleaned up and new brushes

Enjoyed your video tour. Many childhood memories of that old station and hotel. I didn't know what was inside of it now. My Dad's parents lived in Barstow when I was a kid and we would ride Santa Fe round trip from Waynoka OK to see them every summer. My dad and granddad both worked for Santa Fe so the train fare was free. Now I drive a 379 Peterbilt so your video is kind of full circle for me.

Maybe it's because it's a single cylinder, it doesn't have the typical Detroit 2-cycle sound. It sounds a bit like yard equipment, to me. Thank you for the demonstration, and the history. I would not want to have to hand crank a diesel!
